Easter at Hawker Ridge

April 14, 2010

Easter is a time for family gatherings and hunting for eggs, with expectations of treats and surprises. Hawker Ridge provided both this year, as Zig had returned from his trip to Mount Shadforth to drop off the 2010 harvest with the 2007 Shiraz and Cabernet vintages.

Early tastings suggest the 2007 Shiraz may be the best yet. Unfortunately for you Zig has decided to hold its release back til next year to allow it to mature further in the bottle.

Silver medal in Sydney for 2006 Shiraz

February 14, 2010

Zig has just returned from the Sydney Royal Wine Show where the Hawker Ridge 2006 Shiraz was awarded a score of 17.0, qualifying it for a silver medal. This result builds on the bronze medal awarded to this wine at the 2007 Qantas Wine Show of Western Australia, demonstrating that this great wine is continuing to improve as it ages. Here’s what the judges in Sydney had to say about Class 80 (named vineyard, not less than 85% Shiraz):

“An interesting class of wines. Many were developed and tired, but the award winning wines were great wines and show the diversity of styles coming from different regions.”
